Stung Treng Province, a hidden gem in northeastern Cambodia, is a captivating destination just 481 km from Phnom Penh. Bordering Laos, Ratanakiri, Preah Vihear, Kratie, and Kampong Thom, this region is known for its stunning plateaus and mountains, covering an area of 12,061 km². The province is home to the confluence of four major rivers—the Mekong, Se Kong, Se San, and Srea Pok—providing breathtaking views and habitats for the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, making it an eco-tourism hotspot.
Strategically positioned as a gateway to ASEAN markets, Stung Treng boasts rich natural resources and a predominantly agricultural economy. The fertile soil along the Mekong River nurtures crops like rubber, cassava, mango, banana, and cashews, renowned for their quality and nutrition. The mild climate, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 19°C and ample rainfall, supports diverse farming activities.
Stung Treng is not only an agricultural hub but also a natural paradise home to many marginalized groups. Tourists are drawn to its majestic waterfalls, ancient temples, and delicious local cuisine, making it an ideal destination for both tourism and agricultural business ventures.
Our farm, located along the scenic Mekong River, collaborates with 202 local farmers in Stung Treng and Ratanakiri provinces, promoting sustainable practices and a deforestation-free value chain. Our factory exemplifies quality and environmental responsibility, producing premium cashews that reflect the unique qualities of this vibrant region.

Where it all started
The Handcrafted Cashew Nuts Stung Treng (HCST) story starts with a family vacation. It was 2020 and while vacationing in Stung Treng, we learned about the difficulties faced by cashew producers there. We noticed that raw cashews were being sent abroad for processing because the farmers didn’t have the resources to process them. This meant reduced income for the farmers, and a loss of authenticity for Cambodian cashews. We started to think about how we could help.
We started by focusing on making top-notch cashew nuts. But we quickly realised we could do more. We wanted to help our community. We worked hard to involve our local farmers, especially the incredible women, and make sure everyone was treated well and paid fairly.

Our Contract Farming model
At our company, we uphold strict cultivating standards and requirements to ensure the exceptional quality that we promise to our valued customers. In order to achieve this, we have implemented a contract farming system, which ensures that all farming techniques and cultivation practices adhere to our established standards and requirements. By following our rules and guidelines, our contracted farmers are rewarded with a premium price for their cashews, which is typically 15-25% higher than the prevailing market price.
Currently, we are proud to have 202 contract farmers from the provinces of Stung Treng and Ratanakiri. As part of our commitment to sustainable practices, we have launched a comprehensive "Code of Conduct" that places a strong emphasis on forest and ecosystem conservation, specifically aiming to eliminate deforestation. Additionally, we promote environmentally friendly methods by prohibiting the use of harmful chemicals and preventing any form of wild hunting. In recognition of their adherence to these principles, our farmers receive fair trade compensation in the form of a premium price, ranging from 15% to 25% above the market price, depending on the quality of their cashews.
Provide Credit input
In 2023, we provided credit input up to 40% with no interest of the total needed to our contract farmers for them to take care of their cashew farms. The objective is to encourage them to ensure the quality and productivity of the cashew nuts. In return of the credit we provided, they have to sell their cashew to us.
Our Impact
HCST started with the vision of supporting the local farmers community, and we continue to come up with new ways to do that.
Youth Charity for Kids Smile was established in 2018 by HCST co-founder Miss Sothnita Soeun and a group of her high school friends, when they wanted aiming to help disadvantaged children in the rural areas by distributing writing and reading books, study materials, sport materials, and portable water filtration. All of the money which was used for these activities was from the members’ savings. They also received support from their parents, such as Mrs. Chakrya Muth who is the founder of HCST, from their schoolmates and teachers. Some bookstores also sponsored study and sport materials.
